NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy visits Finland

Marie-Doha Besancenot, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, visited Helsinki on 4–5 February.

At NATO, Besancenot is in charge of the Public Diplomacy Division (PDD), which works to raise the Alliance’s profile with audiences world-wide and to build support for Alliance operations and policies.

During her visit, Besancenot met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen. She was also a keynote speaker at the Press Days, the Foreign Ministry’s largest annual meeting on communications and country branding.

The Assistant Secretary General also had meetings with several stakeholders. The topics of the meetings included strategic communication, foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI), NATO’s 75th anniversary and Finland’s first anniversary as a NATO ally.
