EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss Russian aggression against Ukraine, situation in the Middle East and the Sahel

EU foreign ministers will convene in Brussels on 19 February. State Secretary Lauri Tierala will represent Finland at the meeting.

The Foreign Affairs Council will continue the discussion on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, focusing on the EU’s military support for Ukraine, security commitments, sanctions against Russia and Ukraine’s peace plan.

With regard to the situation in the Middle East, the Council will exchange views on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, settlements and regional development. Sigrid Kaag, UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, will also participate in the discussion.

Regarding the Sahel, the EU’s approach, support and influence in the Sahel region will be discussed.

The Council will have an informal breakfast discussion with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, in conjunction with the Council meeting.
